Dr. Goltz is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in treating complex disorders of the shoulder and elbow in adults and adolescents. His practice includes minimally-invasive arthroscopic procedures as well as open reconstruction for upper extremity pain, weakness, and dysfunction. Dr. Goltz is particularly interested in treating labral tears and instability, tendon and ligament disorders including the rotator cuff, cartilage loss, fractures, arthritis including joint replacement, and revision for failed prior surgery.
After completing his undergraduate studies at Columbia University, Dr. Goltz attended Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. At Duke, he received his medical degree (MD) while simultaneously completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA), where he was named a Coach K COLE Leadership fellow, Albert Schweitzer fellow, and Chancellor’s Service fellow. Dr. Goltz then completed residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Duke University Hospital, followed by advanced fellowship training in complex shoulder and elbow surgery at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia, PA. He holds memberships in the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and was named an Emerging Leader within the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).
Dr. Goltz believes in individualized and compassionate patient care, including first attempting all appropriate non-surgical treatments prior to considering operative intervention. Many do very well without surgery, but in those who do require a procedure, Dr. Goltz works closely with patients in clinic to develop a tailored treatment plan most likely to return them to the quality of life they desire. Dr. Goltz often uses cutting-edge 3-D computer modeling to plan surgeries well in advance of going to the operating room, which includes sharing with the patient exactly what to expect both during and after the procedure. Dr. Goltz considers each of his patients to be family, and commits to being with them every step of the way as they complete their rehab and recovery.
As a surgeon leader, Dr. Goltz has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles cited over 600 times and has been invited to present his scientific research over 100 times at national and international orthopaedic surgery conferences. He has won over 15 academic awards and grants, and was accepted to the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) Clinician Scholar Career Development Program. Dr. Goltz believes in the importance of scientific research not only in contributing to surgical knowledge, but in order for him to offer patients only the most proven, evidence-based, leading-edge treatments.
Outside of clinical care, Dr. Goltz enjoys spending time with his family and friends, running, snowboarding, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers, although Bears fans are equally welcome in his clinic.
